Our many thanks to Steve for allowing us to publish extracts from the autobiography of Millicent Kirkby, (nee Stephen) his mother. 


 Here you will find the trek of Norman (Kippy), his father and letters from Millicent describing her and their daughter's
evacuation and arrival in India, also the physical condition and ​medical treatment needed by Norman (Kippy) after his arrival.

The bungalow at "mile 32." 
​Mile 32 refers to a point on the 2' narrow gauge company railway from Namyao to Namtu, part of the way being on a petrol driven company trolley.

The Mill, from the Tails Land Dump.
Showing the steel work of the large new section last December.  The Head Tanks on the left supply the plant with water and the over structure on the substation can be seen to their left.  The man in the middle foreground is Mr Helphens (xxx) Foreman for Sand Pumps.

nee Stephen, b. 1907, d. 1990.  Millicent took this photo on board the ship leaving Australia on her and her parents return home to Namtu after a 6 mth. holiday.

Millicent Stammers, nee Stephen, (George's sister,) 3rd left.
Alice Stammers, daughter of the above, 1st right.
