Moulmein - The treatment of German and Austrian subjects who were naturalised British Subjects
The war with Germany and the revolutionaries in Raheng, Siam, said to be one of the centres of a conspiracy, (and lies on the main route into Siam, this route also passes through Moulmein) set a ball rolling with regard to people of German and Austrian descent residing in Moulmein who were naturalised British Subjects. The Govt. decided to issue an Order, signed by W.F. Rice, Chief Secy. to the Govt. of Burma, by virtue of the provisions of Rule 3 of The Defence of India Rules 1915.
The following were selected to be removed from Moulmein and re-located, with restriction of movement, to the Cantonment at Shwebo by the 6th Sept. 1915:-
