Appointments We are exceedingly pleased to learn that Mr Colquhoun, Assistant Engineer, 1st grade, has been temporarily promoted to Executive Engineer, 4th grade, from the date, we believe, Colonel Newmarch proceeding on furlough. Mr Colquhoun will shortly be relieved at Tavoy by Mr Sutton and will be transferred to Rangoon for a short time prior to taking up his duties here. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We have been reliably informed that Mr Matthews is to be appointed Engineer-in-Chief, I.V.S. Railway. This appointment will be unquestionably a most popular one, Mr Matthew’s talents are well known to the Rangoon public with whom he is a universal favourite and this approaching recognition of his services by Government will be highly approved by all who know him. A more conscientious and harder working man there is not to be found in the P.W.D. It is to be regretted that his warning regarding the Krishna Shoal Lighthouse were not appreciated by the Local Government at the time. Mr Prince who, is expected out from Europe shortly, will probably be posted to India. Nicol & Co., who recently failed have obtained an advance of 2 lacs of rupees to supply girders for bridges etc., to the P.W.D. and State Railways.
