  Moulmein Volunteer Rifles & Artillery

Information compiled from:- Thacker’s Directory and IOR Documents Annual prize distribution of the Moulmein Volunteer Rifle Corps 1894

The Prize Distribution was held on 30th May 1894 in the Port Office compound “by kind permission of Captain Dodd.”

At that date, the strength of the Moulmein Volunteer Rifles was 310, comprising:-

HQ – 91 adults and 11 cadets

Tavoy – 26 adults

Mergui (Reserve Coy) – 62 adults

Shwegyin – 20 adults

33 were “Extra Efficient”

137 were “Efficient”

140 were “Non-Efficient”

Seven officers and NCO’s passed the examinations for efficiency - “ the largest number this season in any Volunteer Regiment in the Madras Command.”
