BURMA CHAMBER of COMMERCE
The preliminary arrangements for the establishment of the present Chamber of Commerce were made at a meeting convened for the purpose on the 1st November 1877, at the municipal offices, under the chairmanship of A. Watson, agent of the Chartered Bank of India, Australia, and China.
The first committee was composed of:-
Mr.Melville (chairman), Mr.Halliday (vice-chairman,) Mr. Borland, Mr. Bryce, Mr. Watson, Mr. Hintze, Mr. Krauss and Mr. Watson.
John Connell filled the role of secretary until the middle of 1882, when he was succeeded by John Stuart, who held office until June 1893.
The next secretary was Alexander D. Warren, who was followed in March 1904, by Charles Cones. On Mr. Cones death in September 1907, Mr. Whitton became secretary and when he retired in 1908 Mr W. B. Murdoch was appointed.
