Rose “A” Coy. granted leave of absence for six mths. with effect from 27th Nov. 1913 Capt. J.E. Houldey granted leave of absence for two years with effect from 8th Nov. 1913. Colour-Sergt. Instructor G. Hemmett, granted furlough for two mths. with effect from 24th Nov. 1913 pending discharge to pension. Sergt. J. Southworth, 1st Durham Light Inf. having reported his arrival on the afternoon of 15th Dec. 1913, took over the duties officiating U.L. Instructor to “A” and “N” Companies vice Hemmett, proceeded on leave. On all parades in future only the regulation saddlery must be used. The using of hunting saddles and non-regulation bridles is forbidden. The former Mounted Company (R.M.R.) having been reorganised on the lines laid down in the printed particulars forwarded to all members. The two Companies now formed will be known as “Z” and “A” Companies. The Syriam Company will be re-lettered as “M” Coy. In future every member of the Corps must wear the Corps numerals i.e. R.V.R. in the shoulder straps. |

Burma Railways Vol. Corps
The name of Capt. Hugh Alexander Craig, of the Burma Railways Vol. Corps is placed on the supernumerary list with effect from 12th Dec. 1913. Axting Sergt.-Major S. Claydon reported his arrival on the 13th Jan. 1914 and took over the duties of Sergt.-Major from Col.-Sergt. Instructor J. Hutson. The Lt.-Governor is please to make the following appointments in the Burma Railways Vol. Corps namely:- The Rev’d. Percy John Ryall to be Hony. Chaplain with effect from 3rd Nov. 1913. Col.-Sergt. Instructor J. Hutson took over charge of G. Company from Col-Sergt. Instructor Gibbs as from 13th instant. Col.- Sergt. Instructor Gibbs is transferred to the R.V.R. with effect from 22nd instant. He is stuck off the strength of the Corps from that date. |

Death
The Commandant records with deep regret the death in action of Major A.K. Robb, Durham Light Inf., Adjutant of this Corps from 1902-1907. Major Robb did much to lay the foundation on which the present efficiency of the Corps is built and left a mark on the Battalion that is fated long to outlive him. The Commandant takes this opportunity of expressing his regret at the untimely end of such a kindly and energetic officer. Command On handing over the command of the Battalion, Major C.J.N. ... The only occupants of the tents at night are the non-commissioned officers under Sergt. Major Claydon whose wife is sharing the discomforts with her husband ... On 25th Major-General Johnstone, Commanding Rangoon Brigade, inspected the camp. He was accompanied by the Chief Inspecting Engineer, Rangoon, and Major Broadbent, Station Staff Officer. ... A fairly large number of the men have given in their names to be included in the Burma Contingent but the exact number of these is not known. With regard to this the following notice, which has been posted on the notice board, which is in a conspicuous place on the camp site, is of interest, It is signed by the Commandant Lt.-Col. Huddleston:- The Commandant will be pleased to recommend for favourable consideration by the Agent, the case of any N.C.O.’s and Volunteers, belonging to the Traffic Dept. who may desire to join the Burma Volunteer Contingent, the names for which are now being taken by the Editor of the Rangoon Times. The Commandant would recommend to the Agent that any Traffic Dept. employee, who is already an efficient in a Burma Vol. Corps, who could be spared from his present railway duties and who was accepted for the Burma Vol. Contingent, be granted leave and on his return be appointed to at least the same position he held when he left to join the King’s Army, or if he is on a graded scale of pay, that the time he is away shall be counted as railway service; (2) the Commandant cannot say what the views of other departments may be therefore any N.C.O. and Volunteers belonging to other departments, if they desire to join the Burma Vol. Contingent should ascertain from their own departmental officers if permission would be given and what the conditions as regards leave would be.

A few days back we published that a call from India had been received for volunteers from the Electrical Engineer Company of the Port Defence Volunteers, to form a portable search light detachment. News has since been received from the Army Headquarters that of the ten men whose names had been submitted, Sergt. Pendrigh and Corpl. Mulhearn of the Thilawa section have been chosen. These men will proceed to Bombay on Monday. With them will go Staff Sergeants McCrossan and Houghton of the Royal Engineers, Monkey Point, who will form part of the same section.
