Saul Elias Abraham Sofaer
On the 20th day of May 1913, I, the undersigned Saul Elias Abraham Sofaer and my brother Manasseh Elias Abraham Sofaer jointly bought up the business of E. Sofaer & Co. from our mother the Executrix to the estate of our deceased father and by a registered deed, dated 25th March 1914, I and my said brother entered into partnership for carrying on the business of General Merchants and Traders with our Head Office in Strand Rd., Bassein. After that my brother left for Bagdad out native place leaving me in charge of the business as the Managing Partner. By an order of the Govt. dated 12th May 1905, I obtained the rights and privileges of a naturalised British Subject and I intend to continue to enjoy the said rights and privileges as long as I live. My Suzerain the King-Emperor has been pleased to declare war on Turkey. My said brother is a Turkey subject and I have got information that he had joined the Turkish Army and has thus taken up arms against my Suzerain. In consequence of the said fact, I can no longer continue to be a partner with him, on and from the 1st Nov. 1914, the said partnership between myself and my said brother will stand dissolved. I am now carrying on the said business in my own name Saul Sofaer and on my own responsibility, my said brother having no concern in the business from 1st Nov. 1914. Persons dealing with my said brother in connection with the said business from 1st Nov. 1914 will do so at their own risk. Please kindly address all cheques, letters and correspondence in connection with the business to Saul Sofaer and not by any other name. Saul Elias Abraham Sofaer, Managing Proprietor Bassein, 11th Nov. 1914. |

Mr J. Whitefield Hirst of 71 Phayre St., writes “In your report of theft of silver from my stock you have put the value in Rs. instead of weight.
