Some towns deserve special treatment.  Moulmein is one of these towns.  Here we are lucky to have an RC priest, Father Stanis, who guards the cemetery fiercely, and so, unlike every other Christian cemetery that we have seen in Burma, this one retains its integrity and peace.

The old Baptist cemetery is still just about intact, but terribly overgrown.  We hope that our work with BACSA will lead to some improvements to both these sites and a full survey of all the graves.

The old Anglican/Town cemetery no longer exists, as it was demolished a few years ago when the railway bridge was built.  Surviving gravestones are being collected at St Matthews Church.  The ones which are kept indoors need a good wash before replacement photos are taken.  There are some large ones outside the church which are being swallowed by plant life.

Registers

We have firm evidence that the RC registers have survived, but we have not had any opportunity to see them.
We are not sure whether the Anglican registers have survived.  We were told otherwise, but one report (Emma Larkin - Secret Histories: Finding George Orwell in a Burmese Tea Shop) implies that the registers still exist.
