The following notifications appear in the latest Gazette of India to hand:-
Mr H. Thirkell White, Secretary to the Chief Commissioner, Burma, to officiate as Commissioner of the Northern Division, Upper Burma, during the absence on furlough of Mr G.D. Burgess, or until further orders.
Mr W. Jessop, Officiating Extra Assistant Superintendent, 1st class, Port Blair and the Nicobars, is granted privilege leave of absence for a period of three months and fifteen days with effect from 24th Mar. 1888 or any subsequent date on which he may avail himself of it.
Mr R.G. Hodson, Inspector of schools, to officiate as Director of Public Instruction in Burma, during the absence on furlough of Mr P. Hordern or until further orders.

With effect from the date on which the Right Reverend J.M. Strachan, M.D., Lord Bishop of Rangoon, avails himself of the leave granted to him in this dept. notification no. 197 dated 15th Mar. 1888, the Rev’d. John Fairclough, officiating Archdeacon of Rangoon, is appointed to act as Bishop’s Commissary.
W.B. Tydd is appointed to be a Myook. 1st grade.
S.H.T. de la Courneuve, Asst. Commissioner, on return from leave is appointed to officiate as Deputy Commissioner of the Meiktila Dist. vice Col. G. Alexander, transferred.
With effect from the date of his relief by S.H.T. de la Courneuve, Col. G. Alexander, Deputy Commissioner, is transferred from Meiktila to the charge of the Prome Dist.
E.H. Molloy, Superintendent of Police, Akyab Dist. is transferred to the charge of the Arakan Hill Tracts Dist. vice J.D. Mercer, who proceeds on leave.

With the previous sanction of the Government of India the Chief Commissioner is pleased to appoint Mr D.L.K. Calderwood to be a probationary Sub-assistant Conservator of Forests in Upper Burma.
The Chief Commissioner appoints Mr T.R. Little to be a member of the Board of Examining Engineers at Rangoon under the Burma Steam-boilers and Prime Movers Act. 1882, during the temporary absence of Mr J. Stark, or until further orders.
Mr L.P. Johnson, probationer, Class IV, Superior Revenue Establishment of State Railways, Locomotive Department, attached to the Burma State Railway, has passed the Lower Standard exam. in the Hindustani language.
R.F. White, Accountant, 1st grade and Honorary Asst. Examiner, on transfer to the Office of the Examiner, Public Works Accounts, Burma, reported himself for duty on the forenoon of 19th Mar. 1888.
Under the provision of section 4 of the Rangoon Port Commissioners Act 1879, the Chief Commissioner appoints Mr H. Rigg to be a Commissioner for the Port of Rangoon in the room of Col. C.W. Street, who has resigned.
With the previous sanction of the Government of India the Chief Commissioner is pleased to appoint Mr Walter J. Rane-Ryan, to be a probationary Sub Asst. Conservator of Forests in Upper Burma with effect from the date on which he reports himself for duty to the Deputy Conservator of Forests at Bhamo.
Under the provisions of section 12 of the Code of Criminal Procedure 1882, Mr G.B. Stirling, Myook, 3rd grade, is appointed to be a Magistrate of the 3rd class in Hanthawaddy Dist.
Under the provisions of section 93 of the Civil Leave Code, leave of absence without pay for two months is granted to Mr C.W. Law, Barrister-at-Law, Govt. Prosecutor, Moulmein, in extension of the leave granted to him in this department notification no. 198 dated 12th Sept. 1887.
Under the provisions of section 132 of the Civil Leave Code, furlough for one year is granted to Mr J.D. Mercer, Superintendent of Police, Arakan Hill Tracts, with effect from the date on which he avails himself of it.
H. MacDonald, Myook, 3rd grade, is placed in charge of the Bassein subdivision of the Bassein Dist.
Lt. C. S. de B. Martindale, Asst. Commissioner, Katha, is appointed to officiate as Deputy Commissioner of the Myadaung Dist. vice Mr G.W. Shaw, transferred. So much of notification no. 105 dated 9th Feb. 1888 as relates to Lieut. Martindale is hereby cancelled.
H.R.H. Coxe, C.S., Asst. Commissioner, is transferred from Pagan to special duty in Rangoon.
G.W. Shaw, C.S., is transferred from Katha and appointed to officiate as Deputy Commissioner of the Bhamo Dist. vice Capt. C.H.E. Adamson, who proceeds on leave.
S.H.T. de la Courneuve, Asst. Commissioner was on special duty in Rangoon from the date on which leave granted to him in this department notification no. 223, dated 27th Mar. 1888, expired until the 18th Mar. 1888.
F.S. Colbeck, Myook, 4th grade, was posted to the charge of the Amarapura subdivision, Mandalay Dist. with effect from 25th Jan. 1888, after noon.
F. Ripley, Extra Asst. Commissioner was posted to the charge of the Male township, Shwebo Dist. with effect from the date on which he assumed charge thereof.
Leave on urgent private affairs for six days was granted to Mr S.H.T. de la Courneuve, Asst. Commissioner, in continuation of the leave granted to him in the department notification no. 66 dated 21st Jan. 1888.
With effect from 30th Nov. 1887 Mr H.L. Tilly, Asst. Commissioner, 4th grade, to officiate as Asst. Commissioner, 2nd grade.
The Chief Commissioner is pleased with effect from 1st April 1888 to appoint Mr H.R.H. Coxe, C.S., to exercise and perform in and for Rangoon Town Dist. all the powers and duties conferred or imposed on a Collector of the Act.
Under the provision of section 12 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1882, the Chief Commissioner appoints Mr A. Brook-Fox, Myook, 2nd grade, to be a Magistrate of the 3rd class in the Pyinmana Dist.
Lt. C.C. Anderson, Second-in-Command, is appointed to officiate as Commandant of the Pyinmana Police Battalion vice Lt. S.H. Pelly, who is appointed to be Second-in-Command of the Railway Battalion.
